Standing on the platform of the Point Reyes lighthouse, you feel as if you have come to the edge of the world. This is especially so on days like this, when the border between sea and sky seems to have melted. Standing in resolute defiance to all this nothingness is the character of the lighthouse itself. Solid and resolute, its beacon reaching out to the horizon, the lighthouse is a testament to the nobler aspirations of man. I am also struck by the idea that a simple beam of light has the power to save lives from a sea of perils.
